Integration of Essential Package of Non Communicable (PEN) diseases and HIV services

The rising burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension in people living with HIV is an emerging public health concern. Adopting integrated care models that address both HIV/NCD prevention and management, such as screening and coordinated treatment, is a holistic approach that addresses these concerns

To this effect, and in collaboration with all key stakeholders, the Ministry of Health is in the process of developing the protocol to guide baseline assessment of essential packages for non-communicable disease and HIV (PEN-HIV) integration of services. This package will provide a more holistic approach to healthcare by simultaneously addressing the prevention, screening, and treatment of both HIV and NCDs, thus strengthening equity and efficiency in primary health care settings. The development of this protocol is spearhead by NASCOP and the division of noncommunicable diseases.
