MINISTRY OF HEALTH LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT DRIVE ON HIV SERVICES

The Ministry of Health, through #NASCOP, launched a nationwide Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) exercise aimed at strengthening the delivery of Prevention of Mother-To-Child (PMTCT) services. The exercise is part of Kenya’s commitment to end AIDS in children by 2027 and eliminate vertical transmission of Hepatitis B and Syphilis by 2030.

Kenya continues to face a troubling burden, with an estimated 6 children dying from HIV/AIDS and 12 new infections occurring daily. This data highlights the urgent need for intensified efforts in maternal and child health services related to HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and viral hepatitis.

The CQI exercise, coordinated by the CDC #CDCKenya and The Global Fund in collaboration with county governments, is evaluating the quality of care provided in health facilities across the country. It focuses on enhancing care for women and children during clinic visits, childbirth, and hospital admissions.
The initiative also aims to equip health workers with updated knowledge and best practices to improve service delivery and patient outcomes.

As part of its broader health reform agenda, the ministry is promoting county-led strategies to ensure sustainable and localized responses to challenges in mother-to-child transmission. Empowering counties and grassroots health facilities as key solution providers will foster sustainable responses that ensure no child is left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS. #EndAIDSinChildren
